Victory (End Rhyme Poem)

Being torn in two from a once friendly face.

Unpopular opinions cause your disgrace.

It doesn’t seem to matter, the meaning or rhyme,

Or even when you’ve spent your last nickel and dime.

They look down their noses, so poised and pissed,

All because of that one silly marking you missed.

You’re done, you’re finished, no one to see you through,

So what other options are there left for you?

You pick yourself up and that’s when it starts.

The thing you’ve been missing all along is your heart.

So busy were you, trying to follow the crowd,

You lost the old drive that had once made you proud.

But with this new start you can finally step out,

Be your own person and with new purpose you shout.

Words from the roof and lines from the heart.

You are the one who now stands apart.

And as for those ones whose words your heart broke

Forget those cruel words that once they had spoke.

Left in the past, and in the past they shall stay

While the light shines on you this glorious day.

Happy New Year! ~2020~

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I can’t believe another year has passed. It always seems to go by like a flash, doesn’t it? I want to thank all of you for following along and reading my stories throughout 2019. I hope you have enjoyed them as much as I have enjoyed writing them! I promise there is more to come this year as well!

With the new year always comes new years resolutions, goals, and motivations, so I thought I would share some of my own with you so you can have some insight into what is to come!

2020 Goal 1: “Rhys of Novia” (Novel)

“Rhys of Novia” is my first completed novel. It is currently with my Beta-Reader for the second time. I am looking forward to getting notes back and doing another round of edits this year. Once completed, I plan to start querying agents and reaching out to publishers for this romance!

2020 Goal 2: “A Second Chance” (Novel)

“A Second Chance” is my second novel (pun NOT intended with the title…just realized it), one I have been editing and publishing chapter-by-chapter in a local digital magazine called Mag Pie. I have been editing like a crazed woman to get the chapters ready for publication dates and been having a blast while doing it. I hope to get more out and more chapters published this year. Once it has been completed in Mag Pie, I hope to self-publish the book. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know when that time comes!

2020 Goal 3: Untitled Children’s Book

I don’t want to give too much for this one, as I have never written a children’s book before and it is also a surprise for someone (if you know who, don’t tell them!!!). This will be my first children’s book I have worked on, and will most likely just be self-published, but I’m looking forward to the new experience.

2020 Goal 4: Writing Motivation & Goals Journal

I adore planners and journals that help with motivation and goal tracking. I have…3…of them, just for 2020 for a variety of tasks and purposes. However, I noticed there was a lack of specific topical ones, especially for writers. It’s my hope to put together a digital downloadable pdf version that I create that can help my fellow writers, like me, who adore journals and want some extra planning and motivation. Something that can be re-printed each year and personalized to each person. More details to come in the future!

2020 Goal 5: Monthly Submissions

I have always tried to do submissions to different journals, blogs, and writing magazines to try to publish some of my poetry and short stories. My goal for this year is to submit once a month to a different location. Even if I end up with 12 rejection letters, at least it means I put myself out there 12 times! Time to be a bit more courageous with my writing!

I have a number of small tasks and to-dos as well this year, but I feel like these are the big ones I’m aiming for. Again, I thank you for all your love and support of my writing. I hope I can bring you new and exciting stories this year! Keep an eye out for this year’s first post of creative writing soon! Happy Reading!

Short Stories

The Loss (Short Story)

She sat at the end of the bed with her feet propped up on the memory chest, a position she took up every morning when she would talk with James as he got ready for work. James…it was turning out to be a long wait for her husband to come home from the event. It had been nearly four hours now. A part of her nagged that she should have went with him, but it was too hard. There was too much pain and heartache, so she opted to stay at home, perched in her favorite spot. He should be home any minute, she thought to herself as she ran her hands over the deep red comforter.

She remembered when they first bought it. There were no opinions spared as James told her, “it gave fugly a bad name.” Yet, her chuckle died down as she became restless, never being one to sit idle. Walking around the room, she continued to relive old memories, content to live in a past world over the cruel present. Her hand drifted out, touching all the trinkets on her vanity, stopping on the ornate wooden jewelry box. It was Christmas morning when she received it, nearly twenty years ago. James had woken at exactly 12:01 am to wish her a merry Christmas and give her this gift. She begrudgingly opened it, claiming coffee would have made the best gift. She was wrong. A beautiful diamond ring sat in the center. A ring she rarely had taken off since.

Her eyes turned from the jewelry box to the picture on the wall, the light having caught it just so. It was a picture of the first vacation they had taken as a married couple. They sat at a small table in a local restaurant in Italy overlooking the ocean. A local woman took it for them. The woman laughed when they had posed a strand of spaghetti being shared by the two of them, just like in the movie. Right after the picture was taken, she went to get the camera and the spaghetti strand snapped. It swung in a glorious arch, right onto James’ face. She wished they could go back.

A door shut and steps followed. James was home. It was time.

She walked over the bed again and sat slowly, waiting for him to reach the top of the stairs. James came through the door to the bedroom looking absolutely exhausted. The bags under his eyes were dark, his hair frayed, his clothes wrinkled. He was hopeless, sometimes, but she was always there to guide him. He slumped to the bed, his head falling right into his hands.

“James, I’m so sorry.” She gently moved across the bed to him, trying to hold back the emotions that threatened to break free. “I know it hurts now, but I promise, it will get better.”

James shifted away, and paced, until the light caught just right on the picture from Italy. “You looked so beautiful that night, like an angel. I looked at you and all I could do was thank God for letting me find you.” A tear fell from his face onto the frame. Then a second. A third.

“Oh, James. I’m so sorry I hurt you. If I could…fix it…I would.” She wrapped her arms around him as she whispered against his back. “I love you. I always have. Please, don’t ever forget that.”

James stroked the picture, right over her cheek and his control broke. Tears fled his eyes as he clutched the picture to his chest. His sobs wracked his whole body. “God, Anna. I miss you so much.”

Anna could only cry in silence as she laid her ghostly head against his shoulder.

Novels, Publications

A Second Chance (Novel) is being Published!

I feel so much joy at being able to announce this! I didn’t think I would ever be able to do this. It has always been one of my dreams to get one of my novels ‘out there’, and here we are.

However, this is far from a traditional publishing route. As you may know, I have been writing for a local digital magazine “Mag Pie”. I will continue writing for the magazine, but in addition to my other submissions I will now publish a chapter of my novel in each new issue!

The first chapter is now live, you can read it by clicking on the link below! I do hope you like it, and I hope you will enjoy taking this journey with me! It is my goal that once the story is completed through Mag Pie, I will self-publish it! Wish me luck!
